Coronavirus Alert and Cancellations
In response to Governor Dewines directive to the coronavirus, USV will be closed starting at approximatelty 3:15 pm on March 13th through May 1, 2020 at 8 am.  There will be no students allowed in the building during this time.  As of now, students will return Monday, May 4th.   Stay up to date on events and also get the latest news on the coronavirus by clicking the following link.

Dear USV Community,

With Governor DeWine’s announcement that the school building closure will continue through May 1, 2020, we will not be returning to school until Monday, May 4, 2020 at the earliest.  With this announcement, some changes have been made to the education plan moving forward:

Monday, April 6 – Wednesday, April 8 continue to finish up assignments already received. 

Thursday, April 9 and Friday, April 10 will be Easter Break for students.

Monday, April 13 will be drop off completed work and pick up of work for April 13 – May 1.  This will take place from 2pm to 8pm.  Please enter by the fieldhouse and we will have two stations, one for dropping off work and one for picking it up.

On our last pick-up day, we had 98.6% participation.  Thank you again very much for assisting in your students’ education during this stressful time.

The meal delivery will remain the same.  Mondays between 12pm and 2pm.  If you need added to this list, please call the school (419) 757-3231 and we will get you added to the list.

Informational Release - 3/20/2020

USV community,

I would like to start by thanking everyone that has helped the school or offered to help in any way during this time of need.  If there are any questions or concerns, please contact us through email or call the school (419)757-3231. 

If you call the school and do not enter an extension, you will be directed to the main office number.  This phone will only be answered two days a week.  However, messages will be checked and responded to daily on Monday through Friday. 

All school emails are firstletterlastname@usvschools.org   For example, Craig Hurley’s email would be churley@usvschools.org.

We will continue to deliver meals on Mondays as long as we are allowed to do so.  The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office has assured me this will be considered an essential function, and we will continue to make the deliveries. 

For the students:  It is very important that we practice physical distancing as we are not in school.   Please refrain from being together for the foreseeable future, phone and video calls are excellent ways to stay connected.  The more contact that we continue to have, the longer this will take to pass.  I assure you we are doing everything we can to make things as easy as possible during this time.  We miss seeing you everyday and look forward to seeing you again soon. 

We will continue to keep you updated to all relevant information when it becomes available through Facebook, text message, all call and school website.  As of now we are still out of school until Monday, April 6.  If this extends further into April, we will work to make arrangements for how future schoolwork will be distributed and how current work will be collected.  Please reach out to teachers if schoolwork questions arise.

Please continue to stay positive and work together.  And remember It is a Great Day to Learn!

Reminder for Food Delivery on Friday, March 20, 2020:

If you signed up for food delivery it will be delivered tomorrow, Friday, March 20, between the hours of 12 – 3 pm.  Someone will need to be available to receive these meals. 

If you did not previously signup to have meals delivered you may still do so by calling (419)757-3231 ext. 1410.  If no one answers, please leave a message and contact information to make arrangements for delivery. 

If you need more assistance, we do have some non-perishable goods available.  To pick these items up please call (419)757-3231 ext. 1410 between the hours of 8 am and 2 pm and arrangements will be made.

USV is truly thankful for all the assistance we have been given.

Informational Release - 3/18/2020

Dear Upper Scioto Valley Community,

Thank you, parents and guardians, for showing how much you care about your students today.  There was 98.6% of student work picked up today by our wonderful families!   I am so thankful for all the support from the community during this time of distress.  I did not hear one negative comment during the delivery of work to students. 

There were so many staff that assisted today that I cannot begin to thank them all.  It was a wonderful and rewarding experience for me. 

I am proud to be the Superintendent for this community and school.

Parent communication for 3/18/20

 

Hello Upper Scioto Valley Community,

I am so grateful for all the support the community and staff have offered in this time of need.  I have tried to follow two principal’s during these changing times: 

Meet the needs of the students to the best of our ability and

Be flexible.

I am reaching out today to remind you of the plan for tomorrow Wednesday, March 18, 2020.  During the hours of 12-6 we are requesting that one adult from each family come to the school to pick up the assignments for the students in grades K-12.  We will also have some school supplies available as well as a limited supply of canned goods for families in need.  

We are also asking that if your family would like school lunches and breakfasts delivered to your home during the school shut down time, you sign-up for this service when the schoolwork is picked up.  Meals will be delivered starting on Friday, March 20 between the hours of noon and 3pm.  Someone will need to be available to receive these meals.  The planned delivery schedule for the next two weeks will be with the meals delivered on Friday, March 20. 

As our plans are constantly changing please watch for updates through the school website, Facebook posts, one-call system and group texts.  Thank you for all you do and continue to be flexible and work to make this time as easy as possible.  I am proud to be a RAM.

Parents and guardians,

Thank you for your understanding in this time of great strife within our state and country.  I assure you that we are doing everything possible to do what is best for the students of Upper Scioto Valley Schools.  With the closing of schools for the next three weeks we will institute the following educational practices.

1)      The school building will be closed to ALL students from Friday, March 13, 2020 at 3:15pm until Monday, April 6, 2020 at 8:00 am.  There should be no students in the building.

2)      All teachers will be creating meaningful educational assignments for the students to complete for the next 3 weeks.

3)      One adult from each family will be required to pick up these assignments on Wednesday, March 18 from Noon – 6pm.  During this you can sign-up if you want meals delivered to you.  This applies to all families.

4)      These meals will be delivered starting on Friday, March 20, 2020.  Then delivered every Monday, Wednesday and Friday after this date.  Time of meals to be delivered will be in the afternoon and someone will need to be available to accept these meals.

As I have shared with staff, this is all new to us and changes occur regularly.  However, I assure you that all decisions from USV are being made with the students’ best interest at heart.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority, and we want to share with our community that the 

Upper Scioto Valley School District is well-aware of the concerns surrounding COVID-19, also known as coronavirus.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) continues to state that the risk of contracting the coronavirus remains low. As of March 12, there are four confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ohio, but no confirmed cases in our community or county.  USV is working closely with the Hardin County Health District and the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) to monitor the situation and develop a coordinated and comprehensive public health plan to ensure we are prepared to execute the recommendations of local, state, and federal health officials if cases arise in our community. Updated information will be shared with the community and posted on our website at usvschools.org, on our social media, with our one-call system.  Some events that

would have attracted large crowds on campus have already been cancelled or postponed for the month of March. A complete list is posted at usvschools.org and we will continue to make updates to the at list as necessary.

In Ohio, we continue to be in the peak of flu season. Below are recommendations from the CDC to prevent the

spread of germs and avoid illness: 

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Stay home when you are sick, do not come to school, except to get medical care.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Upper Scioto Valley will remain proactive as we work closely with various state and local health agencies.  We have planned for extra cleaning and disinfecting of the school and buses.  The ODH has opened a call center to answer questions regarding COVID-19. The call center is available seven days a week from 9 a.m.–8 p.m. and can be reached at 1-833-4-ASK-ODH (1-833-427-5634).

Press Release: Tuesday, March 10, 2020

 

 

Administrators and school health professionals from each of the Hardin County Schools held a meeting today with leadership from the Hardin County Health Department, the Hardin County EMA, the Hardin Memorial Hospital, and the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department.  The purpose of the meeting was to gather additional factual information about the COVID-19 virus from health professionals, collaborate with these health professionals, and review our current school district emergency response action plans.  


As school district leaders we were attempting to take a proactive approach to the spread of the COVID-19 virus should the situation arise where there was a confirmed case in or near Hardin County or local school districts.  Many things were discussed in the meeting and a lot of good information was gathered.  


Overall, the districts found there were many areas where our current plans addressed this most recent threat.  For instance, we are already working to promote and teach proper hygiene to stop the spread of flu and cold viruses including; teaching students to wash their hands properly, disinfecting rooms, common areas, and other places where students gather, and monitoring students for signs of sickness. 


We collectively understand there is a lot of anxiety and uncertainty among our school students, parents, and other community members.  We feel confident we are prepared to meet this challenge and we promise to continue to work with local and state health professionals so that we can make the best decision about the health and welfare of each and every student attending our schools.
