USV Community,
As many of you have heard by now, we are in the early stages of exploring the placing of solar panels on all or part of the school owned 644 acres through a Solar Lease and Easement Agreement with Invenergy. This is an exciting financial opportunity for the Upper Scioto Valley School District. However, there are some areas of concern that need to be addressed during these early stages of exploration.
One of these concerns, raised at the USV Board
Meeting on Monday, January 13, was the toxic chemicals used to create these
panels. On the school website there is
an independent research study completed by TUV Rheinland of North America.
This study was completed on solar panels being
placed on a project in North Carolina by Invenergy. The panels placed in Hardin County and the
school’s 644 acres would not be the exact brand as the ones tested. They would be “substantially similar” to
those tested.
