Steps to be a School Bus Driver
- Complete an Upper Scioto Valley employment application.
- The transportation department will run a comprehensive Bureau of Motor Vehicles check using a copy of the candidate’s drivers’ license and social security number. The following offenses are disqualifying:
- OVI or DUI within the past 10 years.
- FRA suspension in the past 6 years.
- Driver obtains a Federal and State background check.
- Driver completes a pre-employment physical with drug and alcohol testing.
- Driver attends the Ohio School Bus Driver Pre-service training held in Lima or Findlay, which consists of 16 hours of training, 4 hours per day. Classes are offered at different times throughout the year.
- Driver obtains a temporary Class B CDL from BMV.
- Driver completes a minimum of 12 hours of training with an on-board instructor.
- Driver secures Class B CDL with School Bus/ Passenger Bus Endorsement from the BMV.
